Scenes From Home

Summer is quickly waning and autumn is truly upon us. The leaves are starting to turn and the nights are getting cooler. Today we have had a cool autumn rain for most of the day. The kind that makes you want to curl up with something good to read and hibernate a little. So as summer winds down, I thought I would share some scenes from home. Enjoy.

September always brings these beautiful yellow flowers.

Thistle and a butterfly

Baby doesn't like to pose for pictures.

The new chickens are doing well. We still have one rooster to turn into chicken stock.

Beautiful weeds

Our wonderful Pearl

Brother (the gray one) and Pretty Girl are growing up.

The garden is getting a good soaking. The cooler temperatures are bringing it all to a close.

The grasses are turning brown with seed heads as the leaves start changing.

Soon we will need the firewood to heat the house.

It's great to let the rain gear drip outside on the porch instead of in the house.

The sunrise this morning was magnificent. I was driving so I didn't get any pictures - except for the ones in my mind. This evening the hues are soft and muted with the rain. Both contrasts bring a beauty and peace to the heart and mind. Seek out the moments of peace and comfort around you each and every day. Store them up in your soul to draw upon when the times of trials and sorrows are upon us. You will need a deep and abiding reserve within you to carry on. And carry on you must, for there are those depending upon you to do so.

Until next time - Fern

  1. Your posting about "serenity" was once again so timely for me.We are being foreclosed on and moving into a way to expensive house (greedy town) to rent. I am focusing on the day when I can buy a small house on alittle piece of land to start my industrious journey putting all the lessons learned from your blog to good use. Many thanks for so deeply touching our lives. Strangers but friends in Christ, M
