Our Great Street Sign

This week has been very, very busy with many things vying for our time. We have taken pictures of our street sign several times thinking it would make an interesting, short post. So, here it is.

We are really happy with the decorations on our sign. Our 'street' which is really a dead end lane with only two houses on it, has a designated street name that was assigned when the 911 emergency system was established in our county a number of years ago.

It's interesting to see how quickly wild honeysuckle and trumpet vine will grow up and around almost anything.

If you look closely at this tangle of vines you will see a small corner of our street sign. We kind of like it that way. If you don't know where you are going, it's doubtful you would ever find us.

The sign shows up a little better in the dark with the reflection.

We are blessed to be in a rather remote, quiet, peaceful corner of the world. There is no place like home.

Until next time - Fern

  1. Street signs that can be read are important if it's the fire department looking for it.

    1. We appreciate your thoughts. It is great to live here but we are not without our trials and challenges.

Last weekend we spent the entire day Saturday, sweeping, spraying with the water hose and cleaning against the house, just so we could treat for fire ants. They had started coming in the house and we found them between the sheet and mattress. So, we had an all day chore. After we cleaned off the porches, we put down ant sprinkles, dust, bug spray and then we set off many bug bomb foggers under the house, in the attic and all through the house. Then we had to be gone for about 4 hours.

It was a long challenging day, but we still love this place. Just don't stand still too long in the garden or you will have ants climbing up your leg and biting you again!

Today we had a half inch rain which is greatly appreciated. When we went to feed the chickens, the pen was mud soup made up of unmentionable ingredients and very slippery to boot. When the sun comes out and cooks it, it will have a delicate, sweet aroma.

Thanks again for your thoughts, it is a great place to live. God has blessed us all.
