Change in Plans

We had planned on making cheese today, but due to the severe storms and heavy rains in Oklahoma and Arkansas we had to have a change in plans. Our hearts and prayers go out to the families that have lost loved ones and homes. We all hope for a speedy recovery.

Here in our part of southeastern Oklahoma we have received almost six inches of rain in the last two days. Fortunately, we have not had any severe weather except for some straight line winds. We called neighbors to check on them and some called to check on us and for the most part, everyone is okay. One neighbor lost a few cows due to flooding.

We awoke this morning to a heavy run off and the last of the rain. The herb bed has been rearranged and will need to be put back together in the next few days.

We also found out that we needed to do some road repair.

It is nice to have piles of dirt and gravel around when a job like this needs to be done.

When we receive heavy rains the water tends to run down and over the road on top of a culvert that goes under this fence. We have repaired it before with gravel. This time we are trying dirt first, then gravel. Having a tractor to use for these chores really makes a difference.

Now for a layer of gravel.

Another day's unplanned work complete and a safe road home again. It looks like the cheese will have to wait until Monday, tomorrow is the Lord's Day.
